Scouts Football Depth Chart: Positional Standouts Heading Into Lake View Game
Week 10 has arrived and the Scouts are back on the road for an opening round playoff game vs. Chicago Lake View.
Here’s how Lake Forest’s depth chart stands out at each positional group heading into tonight’s game (embedded links are to a player’s football-specific social media feed):
Quarterback
Danny Van Camp — Junior
Karl Nagel –– Junior
Collin Blocki –– Senior
Analysis: We again saw what the Scouts offense can be when it’s humming at full throttle. Week 4 vs Libertyville, a fleeting glimpse. Now with an inflexible roster, the Scouts are going with the guys they got. Week 9 vs. Mundelein, the guys they got showed they can be pretty darn good. Consideration of the opponent must be part of Saturday’s game plan and the Scouts can win with vanilla over fudge. For Van Camp, here’s what leadership looks like for Round 1: hand the ball off, take some shots down field (they’ll be there), protect the football and enjoy being a second half spectator. I’d be surprised if we don’t see Nagel or Blocki at some point Saturday.
Running Back/H-Back
Graham Garrigan — Senior
Marty Hippel — Junior
Ben Merfeld — Senior
Nate Williams –– Junior
Analysis: Mundelein loaded the box last Friday and by doing so, forced the Scouts to beat them through the air. They did. As the Scouts go deeper in the postseason, it will be interesting to see how teams scheme against Lake Forest as we see more game planning for individual opponents. The Mundelein game will likely be more of a statistical anomaly than habit. Congruence between run and pass is how the Scouts will advance and I’d expect more of a return to a run first tenet Saturday.
