Entering his fourth season with the Vanderbilt Commodores is senior wide receiver Richie Hoskins.
Richie is a former Scouts football and lacrosse player. As a senior in the spring of 2021, Hoskins led the Scouts to an undefeated season and was named North Suburban Conference Player of the Year.
Thursday, Hoskins and I had a wide-ranging conversation about his athletic career, preparing for life after football, and the state of the sport in 2025.
Topics discussed:
Rebounding from an injury and his return to the field.
Growing into a new mentorship role with the Commodores
Going from a walk-on to captain in 2024
Starting as a Division 3 athlete and transferring to Vanderbilt
How Vanderbilt has evolved in the era of the transfer portal and NIL
Remaining passionate about football at a time when players are paid
In 2024, Hoskins was nominated for the Bulsworth Award, given to the nation’s top player who began his career as a walk-on
A graduate student working on a master’s in finance, Hoskins made the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll for the 2022-23 campaign and was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2023 and 2024.
I went long with Richie, and we covered lots of topics. I hope you enjoy this extended conversation. I know I did.
